Cocksucker!

Deadwood seems to have begun to influence my vocabulary. The show (on HBO, I've mentioned before how great it is) uses the word "cocksucker" more than The Sopranos uses the "F" word. I'm not sure of the origin of the word, and I'm not sure if the use of the word is historically accurate (Deadwood begins 2 weeks after Custer's loss at Little Big Horn).

Anyways, today I was hanging a ceiling fan in the bedroom. This is a real pain in the ass to do alone anyways, and was turning into a comedy of errors. Just not my day for hanging fans, which I've done before a few times. Every time I dropped a screw, a wire, etc... I seemed to yell "DAMN COCKSUCKER".

I'm straight out of the wild west!

Thanks to my love of Deadwood and blogging about every episode my blog is now filled with cocksuckers. Even people posting comments are using it. Some of them are making up Deadwood-style nicknames for me with the word in it, for example one regular referred to me as You Not Updating Cocksucker because I was late posting about the last episode. But, let's be honest--we love saying it! :-)

Hah! I guess the word is addictive. And yes, it is kind of fun to say. Sort of rolls off the tongue (no pun intended).

What is the origin.
Was the word used at that time?

I wasn't able to find a good source for the origin. And, I read that it probably wasn't used back then. Hollywood fluff for the show.
